Sanlam Data Analyst - Data Management

Role Purpose

Working with data stewards, you will support the Data Governance Lead with driving the data governance implementation across Sanlam Retail Affluent, Sanlam Retail Mass and Sanlam Corporate. Expectations are that you foster a data service-oriented culture to enable data driven decisions.

In this role, you will contribute to the implementation of the data strategy and roadmap and execute on the overall improvement of accurate, valid, secure and available data.  You will collaborate with peers and stakeholders to identify data quality needs and recommend remediation actions to improve data quality. This is an individual contributor role.
This role will also ask that the individual can mentor more junior analysts and take responsibility of stakeholder engagement. 

What will you do?

Data Governance and Management

  • Assist business stakeholders with maturing their data quality, metadata, data sharing and data privacy capabilities. 
  • Work with business data stewards across the SLS cluster to establish, monitor and improve data quality metrics within their business, while ensuring compliance with data related policies and standards.
  • Support data owners, data stewards and data custodians around active management of key data issues. Provide oversight and guidance to identification of key data sets.
  • Own and maintain dashboards and reports for data governance and data quality. 
  • Present dashboard information at Operational working groups and forums.
  • Actively coordinate and administer Data Stewards Community site content. 
  • Support the governance of shared data assets, applying process improvements as required. 
  • Work with Sanlam Group Technology to review access across shared data assets. 

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work directly with data stewards and other business users to gather data governance requirements, provide status updates, and build relationships.
  • Facilitate and foster a culture of data stewardship across the business units.
  • Promote the adoption and implementation of Group Data policies, standards, guidelines and data management tools. Provide guidance and assist business with implementation.
  • Communicate effectively (verbal and written) with all stakeholders, draft reports and present findings for stakeholder use.
  • Work independently with light to moderate supervision in various areas of responsibility.
What will make you successful in this role?

Qualification and experience

  • Diploma/bachelor’s degree (Information Systems; Statistics; Data or Computer Science; Engineering) or equivalent (preferred but not essential)
  • Minimum 3 years of Data Quality or Data Governance operations.
  • Experience of Data Quality concepts such as business rules, Dashboarding, Data Quality dimensions, Data Quality metrics, Data Profiling, and Data Remediation
  • Experience in drafting artefacts such as process maps, decision-trees, Standard operating procedures, frameworks and guidelines.  
  • Knowledge of SAP HANA, Informatica IDQ, Axon will be advantageous
  • Knowledge of South Legislation, namely PPR, PDD and POPI is a plus
  • Knowledge of Data Management frameworks
  • Business experience in financial services would be advantageous
